How it works
Enter your bed's length and width in feet, then choose a depth.
Choose a depth in inches — 2–3 in. is typical for flower beds, 4 in. for weed suppression.
The calculator divides the total cubic feet by 27 to get cubic yards, then divides again by the bag size to give you a bag count.

Frequently asked questions
How many cubic yards of mulch do I need for 200 sq ft at 3 inches deep?
200 sq ft × 3 in ÷ 12 = 50 cu ft. 50 ÷ 27 ≈ 1.85 cubic yards. Order 2 yards to have a small buffer.
How many 2 cu ft bags equal one cubic yard of mulch?
One cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet, so you need 27 ÷ 2 = 13.5 bags. Buy 14 bags to be safe.
What depth of mulch is best for weed suppression?
3–4 inches is the sweet spot. Less than 2 inches lets light through; more than 4 inches can prevent water from reaching roots.
